OUR TRIP TO SOUTH AFRICA
Day 13, Travel to Ladismith

This was not our most fun day. The map that I had downloaded said that we would spend 5 1/2 hours driving. We we left our wonderful Guesthouse in Nieuwoudtville at 9:30 in the morning and arrived in Ladismith at 6:45 PM. Some 5 1/2 hours! The worst road we've been on by far. The beer at the end of the road never tasted better.

We discovered a neat little community, Matjiesfontein. It is on the main railroad of the southern part of SA. The old hotel was built in the 1800's and the whole town has been converted into a tourist destination. Very quaint and authentic.

We discovered an entire hillside of Aloe microstigma, Crassula perforata and a tylecodon. Not just one hill, but miles of it. I climber over the fence to get a closer look. Great stuff.

At the end of the day, darkness coming quickly (damned road) we saw hills of Aloe ferox and other stuff too small to recognize at 120 kph. We're going back tomorrow.

Time for bed.
